Fra Angelico is known as Blessed John of Fiesole, a Dominican friar with the gift of art. His art marked a transition from the Romanesque to the Renaissance with his naturalism while still maintaining the language of iconography. In this framed picture, the Angel Gabriel announces to Our Lady that she would be the Mother of Our Redeemer. The fresco is found at the San Marco Abbey. With its lovely beveled wooden frame, the image measures 17” by 14”.
